The "Goldbergs" for String Trio
Marco Rizzi (violin), Diemut Poppen (viola) and Jens Peter Maintz (cello) perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, in an arrangement for String Trio by D. Sitkovetsky. Recorded at Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Sony Auditorium in Madrid on February 18th, 2019. This work was originally composed for the harpsichord, and includes an aria and 30 variations. Published for the first time in 1741, the Goldberg Variations are considered one of the most important examples of the "theme with variations" form.
